Alpaca Love - Have you felt it yet?
The soft and gentle alpaca might melt your heart with its presence if you are unprepared! These four legged creatures tend get "inside you" with their presence.
Here is a picture of Kahlan and our baby alpaca Infinity:
I tell you, the first time I ever met one of these gentle animals, I fell in love with them right away. Once you have been around one of these "teddy-bears", you might end up being sold for life. Yes, they are that amazing! (o;
Have you ever worn a sweater or some other product made from their fiber? Have you felt its softness? A great quality about the soft fiber and yarn is the non-existing itching factor. That's a biggie for me!
It is also said that the fiber they produce is three times stronger and six times warmer than regular wool. It contains no lanolin, and those barbs you find in sheep's wool, does not exist in the alpaca fiber.
Actually, in the old days, the fiber was so exclusive that it was only royalty that was able to take pleasure in it.
Today, it is a little more accessible for the general public. It is still a little pricey, but as the breeders are getting more and more high quality animals on their farms and ranches, the accessibility of this luxurious yarn will hopefully become what wool is today.
At least that is the goal of today's breeders when they seek the best bloodlines in their breeding programs.
This is our female mom Nancita, with her newborn baby Ra:
Are you one of those city people that long for the nature? I was, and although I like the city there is something special about the peace and silence of the "country living" lifestyle.
This is what many people are finding out these days. Doctors, accountants, "you name it", is looking for something different than the hectic "American way". I myself, left the engineering business to start raising alpacas.
Yes, there is good money to make in this business, especially for those with high-end genetics in their herd. This is of course a big plus, but even if the money were not so good, just being around these animals and spending quality time with them, would be enough. Speaking just for myself here of course.
I will cover many of these things on the different pages that will eventually pop up on this page. This is a progress in work, so please come back often.
This website is in its beginning stages still, and hopefully it will become a place where you can trust to find good quality information about alpacas and their products.
